No. Not today
Today I won’t smoke that last cigarette
I won’t take the last shot of vodka
I won’t drive my bike without a helmet on a wet highway
I won’t stand on the edge of my terrace to greet the air
I won’t jump off a moving bus
I won’t break their hearts and run
I won’t play with a gun
I won’t look directly at the sun
I won’t start a fight and watch the fun
I won’t flirt with anyone in a skirt
I won’t go for a one night stand
At poker I won’t try my hand
I won’t kick the car and smear the dirt
I won’t take cheats in my exam hall
In my box
On my board
In my shirt
In my socks
On my eraser
On my pencil stub
On my palm
I won’t sneak cell numbers from registers
I won’t play my drums after 11 in the night
I won’t call them by their untrue names
I won’t bet my cash on fatal games
I won’t cut my hand to write a name
I won’t say what I don’t like is lame
I won’t spray paint on humble walls
I won’t shoplift in costly malls
No. Not today.
Today. I want to live an honest life for you
But tomorrow,
I shall live it for another.
